Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible.

The passage and the lecture discusses about the life in the planet venus. The author claims that there are three reasons for the mission to venus which has made it impossible. The lecturer casts doubts on the claims made by the writer.

Firstly, passage posits that the atmospheric pressure on the surface of venus is ninety times higher than the surface of earth which leads to crushing of the spacecraft and the humans as well. The speaker challenges this view. he explains that if it is possible to set up a floating station fifteen kilometers above the surface of venus the problem can be counteracted. Because, as the height increases the atmospheric pressure decreases.

Secondly, there is a lack of oxygen and water on venus so need a constant supply of these elements from earth which is not practical. The lecturer rebut this point too. he adds that chemical process can be initiated at the station to produce water and oxygen with the help of gases like carbon dioxide, sulfuric acid which are present on venus.

Thirdly, the author argues that there is only a small amount of sunlight entering venus that makes it difficult to charge the solar panel needed to provide electricity. The lecturer, however refutes this by mentioning that there is enough solar light around fifty kilometer above the clouds. Moreover, the clouds below also reflect sunlight which will enable the humans in the station to get enough electricity.

To conclude, these are the ways how lecturer casts doubts on the passage.
