First, atmospheric pressure at Venus’ surface is at least 90 times greater than the pressure at Earth’s surface. This means that a force of 100 kilograms is pressing down on every square centimeter of surface. All spacecraft that have landed on Venus have been crushed by this extreme pressure within an hour of landing. Almost anything humans might land on Venus would be crushed as well.

Second, as far as we know, there are no reservoirs of water on Venus’ surface, and the planet’s atmosphere, made up mostly of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid, contains hardly any oxygen or water vapor. Water and oxygen would therefore probably have to be supplied to Venus from Earth. The idea of ensuring a regular supply of water and oxygen from Earth is impractical in the extreme and would probably defeat the purpose of establishing a permanent station on Venus.

Third, very little sunlight reaches the planet’s surface. About 60 percent of the sunlight that hits Venus is reflected back into space by the thick clouds that fill the atmosphere, which means that only 40 percent of the sunlight can get through the clouds. Below these clouds is a dense layer of carbon dioxide, which blocks even more light, so very little light reaches the surface. The lack of light would prevent the use of solar power cells, so humans could not get electricity to power their machines and equipment.

The topic is discussing whether the human being could stay on Venus. The author and the lecturer state the opposite statements. Both of them claim three strong views.
First, the author claims that the pressure on Venus is too heavy for the human being to stay on it. The force is about 100 kilograms, and it not only will crash the human being but also damage the spacecraft. However, the lecturer holds a different view, which if people can build a fluid craft such as a ballon, they can stay 50 kilometers high from the surface of Venus. Thus, the pressure at this level is equal to the Earth.
In addition, the author argues that there is no surface water on Venus and also too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is impractical to be supplied from Earth. However, the lecture still gives the opposite statement. He holds that people can use chemical materials to produce water, and these can be found in the atmosphere.
Last but not least, the author holds that its a lack of sunlight on the surface because of the thick atmosphere which will reflect 60 percent of sunlight. Although there is 40 percent of sunlight will penetrate into the cloud, the dense layer which is made from carbon dioxide will block most of this sunlight. It causes many machines and equipment to have no power to run. In contrast, the lecture gives a resolving answer. He claims that the layer is not really thick, some sunlight can go through the layer. Using the sunlight which goes through the layer and reflects the cloud provides the machines and equipment to power up
