The article declares that in 1950s a type of evergreen tree named Torreya Taxifoha in Florida started to die out and states three ways that experts are considering to address this decline. Nevertheless, the lecture claims that none of these ways provides a desired results and refutes each of them.
First, The passage states that reestablishing Torreya in same location in micro-climates similar to its own will help them to survive. However, The professor believes that this micro-climates are strongly affected by global warming and also the draining environment around those micro-climates. She believes that this way is unlikely to provide good results.
Furthermore, the passage states that reestablishing these trees in other locations in north will be a good chance to let them thrive. However, the lecturer claims that assisted migration have a lot of unpredictable consequences. She provides an example of Black Locus tree which had been reestablished in other environments. This plaint had been spread so quickly that had killed other plants native to that location and were more likely to be distinct.
Third, the article suggests to preserve Torreya in research centers so that they could be easily monitored, studied and protected. Nevertheless, the professor claims that these centers do not have enough capacity to preserve a large population of these trees and there will be a little diversity. She believes that the diversity in the plant's species help them to survive and in front of different disease.
