The reading passage claims that the number of birds in the United States will necessarily decline because of an increase in agriculture and pesticide use. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on the points made in the reading.
First, considering passage as human populations continue, with result that the number of birds will decline. In contrast, the professor in the lecture contradicts the idea and further explains that construction and expansion of cities provide new habitat for some birds and its not all the time with a decrease of birds population. Also, in some situations prepare prey in a new environment.
Second, the author in the article claims that agriculture activities will result in further destruction of bird habitats. Admittedly, the professor justifies the information presented in the passage and makes the point that actually areas as a converted to agriculture use are less than the past. Today people gain more crops of ground cause of efficient and fertile sites and consequently no more habitat distraction.
The writer puts forward the idea that human settlements expand and use pesticides increasingly. In the same way, the professor validates the idea and adds that new pesticides are under genetic modification and this kind of new chemical materials are not harmful for birds and just kill home garden pests. Moreover, the farmeries use fewer pesticides for protection of their farms.
To sum up, both the writer and speaker hold conflicting views about cuase of the bird's decline.
