First of all, the article states that the invasive species from other countries make the negative one hard to survive. For example, the paperbark tree from Australia replace the saw grass and turn the marshes into swamps. On the other hand, the lecturer argues that it is a mistake from human activity because the trees do not have predators in the environment. To solve the problem, humans can import certain insects to eat the paperbark trees’ leave and flowers to control their population.
Second, the article discusses that there is serious water pollution in the Everglades. To illustrate, chemical fertilizers and mercury change the chemical composition of the soil and make the species become toxic in the environment. However, the professor suggests that as the government limits the use of fertilizers and strictly controls the emission of fuel-burning by standard, it can help to decrease the damage of the Everglades. As a result, the pollution is reversible.
Third, the reading passage talks about the dams and canals decreased the water supply of the Everglades because they stop the water flood through the surrounding. Nevertheless, the professor points out that those dry conditions can be solved by removing the dams and canals. In addition, humans can rely on rainwater or storage of waters in artificial containers. Furthermore, once they remove the construction, water will return to its natural state and can recover the wetland again.
To conclude, the lecturer discusses some solutions to preserve the Everglades and refutes the problems which the reading passage mentions.
