Rembrandt s Painting

Essay topics:

Rembrandt's Painting

The Author and The Lecturer are concerned ( mistake concern) about the originality of Rembrandt's painting. As much as they discuss one of his famous artworks " Portrait of an Elderly Woman". In the reading passage, the author claims that this portrait is not an original one. The speaker, however, opposes the writer. She says that after re-examination by ( mistake through) scientists, it is found that the painting was modified. This portrait belongs only to Rembrandt's work.

First, The author mentions that Rembrandt was known for the details of his paintings. But, in the portrait, Lady's (mistake lady) dress does not show consistency with the theme of the painting. The speaker refutes the claim by saying that after scientific analysis, it is found that the portrait was repainted in order to improve its (mistake its) appearance. In reality, the dress of the lady in the painting perfectly matches ( mistake used with) the theme.

Secondly, The author states that Rembrandt was a master in painting light and shadow. However, the shadow that appears on the lady's face is not in coordination with the light on her fur. The speaker refutes the argument. She says that when we remove the upper layer of the painting, we will be able to see that Rembrandt's artwork is original.

Lastly, The author mentions that Rembrandt never used to draw his painting on a wooden panel which is combined by using different wood pieces. The professor denies this fact. She mentions that additional wood pieces are only used to enlarge the boundaries of the painting while the portrait is still drawn on single wood. Further, she states that the painting is drawn on the same wooden material which was used by the Rembrandt for most of his other paintings
