The Salton Sea in California is actually a salty inland lake. The level of salt in the lake’s water
The article states that there are several methods to prevent the trend that is endangered the lake's qualities. However, the professor explains that the ways mentioning in the passage are great idea, but are unrealistic and impractical, and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that special desalination equipment would be helpful in direct removal of salt from the lake's water. the professor refutes this point by stating that desalination of lake water would be make serious problem and it's actually a risky afford. she illustrated that other solid materials such as the Selenium dissolved by desalination facility have a toxic quality and people who living near lake breathing it and it leads to a disastrous event in lake.
Second, the article claims that dilution of the salt level in the lake with water from the ocean is another option. However, the professor contends that reducing salinity requires the constructing a huge pipe line
from the ocean to lake, not only is it very expensive, but also have not enough financial source in order to accomplishing such a massive project.
Third, the reading avers that controlling salinity of lake's water by constructing walls and dividing aquatics into several section would be a firm solution to problem. the lecturer opposes this points by saying that this project unlikely will not successful in long term due to geology activity, to be specific the earthquake, maybe this solution is better in short time, but this wall will be destructed and the water in lake's will be mixed together.
