The sea otter is a small mammal that lives in waters along the western coast of North America from California to Alaska. When some sea otter populations off the Alaskan coast started rapidly declining a few years ago, it caused much concern because sea ot

The article states that the reason behind the declination of sea otters, is environmental pollution , not attacks by predators and provides three reason of support. however the professor opposes the article and states predators are the main reason of declination in otters populatiob and refutes each of the stated reasons.

Firstly, the article states that pollution is the main reason, why the otter's population has declined severly. The professor refutes this theory, explaining that there have been found no dead bodies. making the predators role more plausible.

Secondly, the article says that there has been also a descending trend in the population of other marine mamals such as seals and sea lions which are not of interest for predetors like ocra. The professor explains that the as a result of huan attack, whales have dissapeared from shores and that this change of habitat has lead to a change in their regular diet. Therefore the whales are ore likely to eat even sall anials like sea lions and seals.

Third, the article states that the uneven distributation of eliminated population is due to the eneven diffusion of pollution in the sea by the ocean currents. The professor poses this reason, asseting that the variance of change is yet another proof that predators have caused the declination in population of sea mamals. she explains that since the orcas are too large, they are unable to attack where water is shallow. the descending trend of population as a atter of fact has stopped where water is too shallow for orcas.
