silver coins found on the North america

Essay topics:

silver coins found on the North america

The reading and the lecture are both about the silver coin which was discovered by Native American archeologist in the state of Maine in the United States. The author of reading states that coin is not real piece of historical evidence. It placed by someone to mislead the people. The lecturer thinks that many archeologists believe that is not fake and it represents the Norse came from Europe to America.

First of all, the author believes that where the coin was discovered that site representing far away from the Norse settlement place. Coin has no real connection with settlement. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that Norse did travel to obtain objects from Maine site. Furthermore, he points out they could not settle during their time of the travel.

Secondly, the author states that no other coins have been found at the Canadian sites. He argues that it means Norse did not bring any silver coins with them in North American settlement. The lecturer refutes this argument and suggests that when Norse went back to Europe they packed up all things. Therefore, probably they brought back their silver coins in Europe.

Finally, the author mentions that North American did not consider the coin as money. The lecturer, on the other hand, states that silver coin was attractive to native Americas, because it was used as a neck less or as a beautiful silver jeweler. He puts forth the idea that Norse use coins as a trade with them

In conclusion, lecturer effectively casts doubt all the claims presented in reading passage.
