Summarize the points made in the lecture.

Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture.

The given text and the lecture is about the argument that if dinosaurs are endothermic or not. The author of the passage strongly argue that dinosaurs are endothermic based on presence of different characteristics that are similar to endothermic. While the lecture refutes the claims made by the author by providing various counter arguments. The lecturer is of the opinion that even if they exhibit some characters which are analogous to the endothermic, they may be due to other causes which are discussed as following.

First of all, the author of the passage claims the existence of dinosaurs in the polar region is the proof for dinosaurs being endothermic. If they were not endothermic, there existence in such cold climatic conditions would not have been possible. This specific claim is challenged by the lecturer. He argues that the dinosaurs could have migrated to the warmer areas to survive the cold or could have hibernated which is common in many reptiles. Furthermore, the fossils found are warmer which puts serious doubt on dinosaurs being endothermic.

Secondly, the author argues that the leg position in dinosaurs -- like in many endothermic -- is below the body which helps in active endothermic activities like running. In the contrast, the lecturer refutes the argument by providing an alternative explanation that the position of leg in the dinosaurs is below the body in order to hold the massive weight of dinosaurs and not necessarily for active endothermic process like running.

Moreover, the author provides presence of Haversian canals in dinosaurs as an evidence of dinosaurs being endothermic. These Haversian canals are comprised of nerves and blood vessels that facilitate rapid growth which indicates that the animal is endothermic. On the other hand, the lectures disapproves of this argument by pointing out the presence of growth rings in the bones of dinosaurs. The presence of growth rings suggest that the growth is not rapid and is checked after certain time.
