For this task, you will read a passage and then listen to a lecture on the same topic. You may take notes while you read and listen. Then, you will write a response to a question that asks you about the relationship between the reading and the lecture. The question does not ask you to express your personal opinion. You may refer to the reading passage again when you write, but you will only be allowed to hear the lecture one time. You may use your notes to help you answer the question. Typically, an effective response will be 150 to 225 words. You should allow 3 minutes to read the passage. After 3 minutes, listen to the lecture. Finally, allow 20 minutes to plan and write your essay.

The reading and the lecture present two contrasting views about globalization. On one hand, the reading supports and applauds the idea of globalization, on other, the lecture points out the downside of it by bringing out pertinent points.

Firstly, the lecturer comments on the dependency of multiple countries on each other and why it can be deleterious. She supports her claim by giving example of recession in 2008 which started in United States but spread to Europe and some countries in Asia due to the dependent relations. Although, the passage believes that such dependency can bring competition and growth, the lecturer disapproves that globalization is good for the world.

Next, she brings out how unemployment has increased in the countries because of the import of cheaper goods from the developing countries. The manufacturers in United States were cut down when Mexico started exporting cheaper goods, casting a doubt on passage's claim about the economic well being.

Lastly, according to the passage, mutual reliance between the countries , cultivated by globalization, is making world safer as less polluted countries is likely to see more business. This point is challenged by the lecturer's view-since globalization gives rise to more business with cheaper goods, cheaper goods can lead to more environmental pollution, which is caused while manufacturing them. This adds up to the already existing environmental issues.
