Titan VS Mars

Essay topics:

Titan VS Mars

The article and the lecture explore the prospects of future colonization of other parts in the solar system outside the planet earth. The writer of the article suggests that Saturn’s moon Titan will be a better option for colonization whereas the lecturer prefers Mars over Titan.

The writer claims that Titan and Earth have similar atmosphere so it will be more suitable for colonization. However, the lecturer asserts that regardless of the similarities in atmosphere, people will have to wear space suits to protect themselves from adverse conditions. Therefore, similar atmosphere of Titan does not make it an ideal option for colonization. Furthermore, the writer states that Titan has more resources such as methane, which could be used for propulsion but the lecturer claims that Mars may not have the same resources but it contains water, which is essential for life.
Additionally, the writer of the article states that Titan’s gravity is lower so it will be easier for the rockets to land. As a result, the lesser fuel will be spent to land or to take off from Titan. On the other hand, the lecturer asserts that lower gravity makes Titan less habitable and it negatively impacts human health. Lower gravity can result in heart complications.
Lastly, the writer claims that since lesser fuel would be needed to land on or take off from Titan, it will be easier to travel to Titan than to Mars, even though Titan is farther from Earth. The lecturer refutes the claim by stating that that the longer distance between Earth and Titan will disrupt communication. In addition, owing to the longer distance, it will be difficult to carry the necessary supplies to Titan. Hence the lecturer claims that since Mars is closer to Earth it will be a feasible option for colonization.
It is a debatable topic and both the groups will find it difficult to find common ground.
