TOEFL T P O 20 Integrated Writing Task

There is a policy in the United States called 'Let it burn', that consist of not putting out fires. This policy generates different points of view regarding the impacts it generates on the city and its ecosystem. Three types of damage can be distinguished:

Firstly, fires can seriously affect vegetation and trees in parks. However, this can mean new opportunities for other plant species. As a result, more diversity will be obtained.

According to the passage, wildlife is destroyed by these fires. Yet, it can also be interpreted that many animal species will be able to establish themselves again after rebuilding.

Finally, according to the lecturer, disasters such as fires does not occur very often. Therefore, even if tourism is affected by fires once in a long time, it is not generally a huge economic lost. There may be other types of disasters that also cause loses and they are likely to occur more frequently.
