TOEFL T P O 29 Integrated Writing Task

The article and the lecture are both deal with the dinosaurs migration to survive from intolerable winter condition of the North Slope. While the author of the reading thinks that it is possible for the huge dinosaurs to travel for great distance for extensive food source during unbearable weather for three specific reasons, the lecturer opposes the author's claims. In her opinion, these theories don't necessarily provide compelling evidence of the migrations.

First, the author of the reading claims that the plant-based edimontosaurs' diet is one of the reason why they had to face a challenge to find variant food source. Furthermore, it is stated in the article that since the North Slope winter was harsh enough to freeze the entire plant species that feed the dinosaurs, the edmontosaurs need to travel more food-friendly regions in cold periods. In contrast, the lecturer argues that the edmontosaur species did not have to move significant destination for their diet because of relatively warmer temperature. Additionally, she maintains that because the North Slope placed special location that keeps daylight for lengthy hours, this created suitable condition for vegetation in summer warmth. In fact, the growing condition affected even in the colder times of the years by providing nutrition rich plants for the dinosaurs.

Second, the author mentions that the multitude of skeletons that are discovered from the single site provide the evidence of herd living style. On top of that, it is added that living in a group helps the dinosaurs migrate with coordination for a great length. However, the lecturer calls her arguments into the question by saying that living in the herd doesn't have to intend to migrate during the colder periods. Further, she remarks that many other species of animals live in the herd to any other purposes such as protecting themselves from predators.

Third, the writer asserts that the edmonosaurs' physical functions are suitable for long distance migration. In addition to that, it is noted in the reading that since finding nutrition rich food site required considerable amount of capability to endure up to 1600 km extreme coldness in short time, the specific dinosaurs have physical adaptability to overcome this situation successfully. As opposed to the author, the lecturer holds that despite of mature dinosaurs, juveniles don't develop the ability to survive in the bizarre condition. She highlights that because of the youths, the adults would prefer to stay at the location and bear the winter environment with their immature dinosaurs.
