The articles states that reduced the number of working day from five to four would provide benefits to companies, country and employees and provides reasons of support. However, the professor explains that is not such a good idea and refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that shortened weekend would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alert and thus reduce costly errors. The professor refutes this point by saying that hiring new employees would increase cost health insurance, amount of new offices, more space and more computers.
Second, the article posits that this solution would offer a help in reducing the amount of unemployment rate. However the professor says that hiring new employees would cost the country very much and he argued that it possible to do the same amount of five days’ work in just four days by work extra time.
Third, the reading states that shortened weekend would give the employees more free time for improving the quality of their life. The professor opposing this point by explaining that many risks could occur as the economic may be affected and the employee may lose his job, also it may affect his health.
