TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

In this reading, many employees are willing to replace five- day week’ work with four- day week’ work and less pay, declaiming three reasons from the company, the country and the individual point. However, the lecture refutes all of the explanations and insists that the change will do no good.

From the first point, if we force the company to employ four- day employees instead of five- day employees, they have to spend a lot more money on providing more training and medical care, which is totally contrary to the point in the reading. The company need to have more office space and more computers, too.

Secondly, the individuals may not be pleasant either. After the employees take the four- day job, they will be expected too much to even take the responsibility as the five- day employees will take. Working overtime will be a usual phenomenon in the future and no addition job could be provided. The job will be so unpleasant and could not realize the dream in the reading.

Thirdly, the country are supposed to have the preparations to take the risk of reducing employment chances. When someone is used to work four- day a week, his job ability could be reduced and he is more likely to lose his job, because the company will prefer five- day week employees in order to continue to finish the task in time.

In conclusion, the change to four- day week will not have good effects in company, country and individuals.
