TPO-04 - Integrated Writing Task Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37°C, no matter whether the environment is wa

In this lecture, many scientists argue that the evidence in the reading cannot prove that dinosaurs are endotherms according to the following reasons.

First of all, Polar Regions where the dinosaur fossils are found were much warmer in the past than today, which enables the species to live there like dinosaurs. The temperature is not such cool as it is today, so many dinosaurs could even migrate to warmer places in Polar Regions.

In addition, the evidence that endothermic animals have their legs underneath their body can also be reputed because not all dinosaurs have their legs underneath their body. The legs at the body’ side are to support their body for growing large size, such as crocodiles, so there is no need to have their legs under their body to run for efficiency. Therefore, the evidence of legs and movements do not prove that dinosaurs are endotherms.

Last but not least, dinosaurs do not only have Haversian canals but also another part that keep their body growth at a low speed. They do not just keep at a permanent speed. They can grow rapidly at first and then grow slowly, which means that they are not endotherms.

In conclusion, dinosaurs may not be endotherms because the evidence are not enough.
