TPO-09 - Integrated Writing Task Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hy

In terms of whether the hydrogen- based fuel-cell engine has many advantages than the internal-combustion engines. The reading and lecture are contradictory to each other.

First, the reading claims that hydrogen is infinite resource but the internal-comustion engines depend on petroleum which is considered a big problem because it is limited resource. On the other hand, the professor refutes this notion by explaining that even though the oil is a infite resources. Also the hydrogen is not easy to be available. Moreover, hydrogen should be in a pure liquid phase to be used. So hydrogen is a highly artificial product. In addition, to keep hydrogen it is so difficult and it needs highly cooler system like two hundreds celliceious. Consequently, the production of hydrogen is considered not practical technique.

Second, contrary to the belief in the reading passage that hydrogen-based fuel cells will dismiss the pollution problems because the by product will be just water. So there is no more carbon dioxide. The professor question this idea by pointing out the production of hydrogen creates more pollution, to produce hydrogen that need to burn coil and oil. So, the generation of hydrogen will increase the pollution.

Third, the article states that hydrogen full cell engines are more economic than the internal one. Nevertheless, the professor refutes that by saying that it is not cost saving because it needs to a very costly manufacture process. Furthermore, to produce hydrogen that needs paltenium to go through chemical reaction and paltenium is rare and expensive material. On the other hand, the cheap materials lead to unsuccessful production.
