TPO-09 - Integrated Writing Task Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hy

The reading passage describes the advantages of hydrogen fuel based engine which is considered as one of the best replacement techniques for automobile's main source of power, the internal combustion engine. However, the speaker in the lecture opposes the specific points made in the reading passage and gives his explanation as follows.

Firstly, the writer in the passage states that the internal combustion engine is based on petroleum products which are finite resources, whereas hydrogen is easily available in huge amount. On the other hand, the speaker refutes the writer's point expressing that the hydrogen used as fuel is the pure hydrogen which is very difficult to produce since, it requires high technology besides as low temperature as -200 degree celsius.

Secondly, the writer in the passage claims that the pollution would be decreased by using the hydrogen fuel based engines over petroleum based engines. However, the speaker refuses this saying though hydrogen based engines may not cause pollution, but the factories that produce pure hydrogen required for engines may produce more pollution than the farther.

Thirdly, the writer states that the use of hydrogen fuel based engines would be plausibly cost effective over the use of internal combustion engine. the speaker in the lecture contradicts writer's statement affirming that the hydrogen fuel based engines are more expensive than the earlier because it requires platinum to produce electricity from hydrogen.

In conclusion, by giving the above explanations the speaker in the lecture opposes the specific points made by writer.
