declining the population of sea otter in the western coast of North America from California to Alaska

The listening and the reading materials have a debate on what has caused declining the population of sea otter in the western coast of North America from California to Alaska. The penman puts 3 main hypotheses, which are refuted by the following orator.

First of all, the writer proposes that pollution of oil rigs and other reagents of factories had killed the sea otters. On the contrary, the speaker views this issue from opposite angle. According to her, predators caused that tragedy because not only no one has found dead animal'carcass, but also this phenomenon fulfill the predator idea more valuable.

The second point offered by the author is that pollution decreases other sea animals such as sea lions too. in addition, predators such as Orcas prefer to eat larger animal like other whales in stead of sea otters. On the other hand, the professor casts doubt on this assumption by saying that predator may change their diet from big animals to smaller ones. As a result, it is not compelling reason that pollution was responsible for disappearing the sea otter and other little sea animals.

Last, the reading passage suggests that only some locations in that coast are subject of that event, thus, pollution may caused that. However, the lecturer holds a different view. She explains that large size of Orcas prevent them to reach to shallow and rocky places and they only in specific spots killed sea otters.
