The main idea of both the lecture and the talk is about whether the "let it burn" policy is proper or not. Considering this, the author offers three issues against "let it burn" policy. The professor, on the other hand, not only refutes the author's assessments, but also asserts that the announced option runs counter to the ways the reading just argued. The lecturer demonstrates three reasons to reject the points in the reading.
The first criticism of the passage against which the lecture argues is that Yellowston fires led to deterioration of trees and vegetation in the park's trees. As stated by the professor, Yellowston fires gives certain small plants a chance to grow in the area. For example, some plant's seeds which need high heat in order to germinate grow in the area. So, it is not true that Yellowston fires has devastated the area. Rather, the area is colonized by new plants, which has increased in turn plant diversity in the area.
Moreover, unlike the reading which claims that Yellowston fires devastated animals' habitat, the professor illustrates that the new small plants have created a new habitat for animals such as hares and rabbits, which led to attract more predators to the area. Therefore, the fire has created a stronger habitat for animals compared to before.
Finally, the lecture contradicts the fallacy of the passage that the fires damaged tourist industry in the area, saying that fires happen rarely, and they need combination of great deal of factors in order to be occurred in a vast manner.
All in all, the professor maintains that all the options against "let it burn" policy in the reading is not convincing.
