First of all, the writer states that Yellowstone fires caused tremendous damage to the park's trees and other vegetation. Nevertheless, the speaker posits that scorching the trees provides an opportune time for plants to grow more diversely. In fact, fire provides an opportunity for certain plants to grow. As a case in point, smaller plants which need shaded space to grow and some certain kinds of seed that they cannot grow unless after a high level of heat.
Second, according to the reading, the park wildlife was affected and the destruction of habitats and the disruption of food chains would make it impossible for the animals that survived the fire to return. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that fire not only recovers the trees but also provides an opportunity for new plants to grow. To be more specific, small plants replaced the tree and these new plants provide an ideal habitat for certain species, such as rabbits and hares, these animals also increase the predators depend on them which lead to strengthening the certain food chain.
Third, the writer expresses that the fires adversely affect the local economy by decreasing the number of visitors to the national park. However, the professor points out that if fires happen every year, they will have negative consequences on the tourist economy; nonetheless, they would not happen since the 1960s. As a matter of fact, lots of other disasters should happen together to create massive fires, such as low rainfalls, strong winds and the accumulation of the dry undergrowth, which they would not happen since the 1960s. She adds that a large number of people each year after that time have visited this park.
Therefore, the points mentioned in the reading do not make any sense.
