TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task Ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugar cane, has been advocated by some people as an alternative to gasoline in the United States. However, many critics argue that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasol

According to the reading passage, ethanol replaced to gasoline is not good idea because of not getting the environmental benefits, decrease sources of food for animal and not compete with gasoline price. However, the lecturer refutes the three reasons made in the article and says that all reasons are unconvincing.
First, the reading passage claims that like gasoline, ethanol release carbon dioxide in atmosphere, therefore not getting environment benefits. The lecturer, in contrast, mentions that since ethanol obtain by corn, it is not harm to environment. It is true that ethanol release carbon dioxide in environment but plants absorb this gases, so in atmosphere carbon dioxide level not increase.
Second, the article emphasizes that ethanol produce from corns which are crucial food for farm animal. If, 60% corns used for manufacturing ethanol, then deplete sources of food for animals. The lecturer, on contrary, explains that ethanol produce by uses of part of plant is called as cellulose which is outer part of corn plant and it is not food for animals, therefore, using of plants part not decrease sources of food for animals
Third, the lecturer oppose the last point made by reading passage that in future, government not provide the tax subsidies to ethanol producers, then ethanol cannot compete with gasoline prices. He implies that without subsidies also ethanol will compete with gasoline cost because of increase the uses of ethanol, then, surging demand for production of ethanol. The producers are more produce ethanol, eventually ethanol prices will decrease.
