TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task Ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugar cane, has been advocated by some people as an alternative to gasoline in the United States. However, many critics argue that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasol

the reading passage and the lecture are both about ethanol fuel .the author explains why ethanol is not good alternative to gasoline and provides three reasons of support.however, the lecturer casts doubts on those points by providing several evidences and justifications.

first, the article claims that using ethanol will release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when it's burned for fuel which helps trap heat in the atmosphere ,just like gasoline;on the other hand, the professor disagrees with this point by saying
that ethanol is made from plants such as corn,so increased growing of plants will reduce emitted carbon dioxide ,because plants absorb carbon dioxide.thus, the article's first idea is not convincing.

second, the lecturer opposes the claim made in the passage that the production of ethanol will reduce the amount of plants available for uses other fuel.for instance ,feeding.the professor states that ethanol fuel could be produced from a part of plants which is not used for feeding, the professor give the example of celeloz.

third, the article states that ethanol fuel will never be able to compete with gasoline.however, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that if the producing of ethanol increased then the the price will drop down.the professor continues to say that there is a study shows that if the production of ethanol increased by 3 times then the price will decrease by 40%.
