TPO-34 - Integrated Writing Task A huge marine mammal known as Steller’s sea cow once lived in the waters around Bering Island off the coast of Siberia. It was described in 1741 by Georg W. Steller, a naturalist who was among the first Europeans to see

first, the reading passage states that overhunting by native people could have been the main cause of extinction.however, the lecturer refutes this point and explains that steller's sea cow was a massive animals ,about 9 meter and 10 tons,so a couple of see cow could feed the entire village of siberian people, besides, the number of siberian people was not large, therefor they wouldn't need to hunt large numbers of sea cow.

second, the article claims that a disturbance in the ecosystem caused a decline in kelp populations, which is the main source of food for sea cow.in contrary , the professor rebuts that and he says that if any ecological changes happened ,these changes will not affect only sea cow ,it should affect other types of marine mammal like whales but was not there any evidence about a decline in whales populations.,

third, the article belives that the european fur traders are responsible about the extinction of sea cow.in contrast ,the lecture disagrees with this point and says that european traders were the last to arrive
