Both the article and lecturer discuss the factors which are involved in the decline of yellow cedar. The essay provides three factors to explain the reduction. However, the professor refutes all of the reasons which will be amplified hereunder.

Firstly, the professor avers that the cedar bark beetle cannot be a major factor due to these trees get resistant to them over time. So, these insects can affect them. They can only attack the died cedar which in this situation, these insects are not the central factor for their death. Conversely, the text contends that the beetle larvae eat the wood of these trees. As a result, this insect is a good candidate for the cause of the tree's decline.

Secondly, the lecturer declares that the brown bears have not any key role in this declination. The yellow cedars are living in both the mainlands and islands of North America. Although these bears would not live in the islands, we see the number of trees has been gown down in the islands. As a result, the bears are not responsible. On the other hand, the article remarks due to the high sugar content of these trees bears sometimes claw at the cedars to eat the tree bark. therefore, they may be effective in this process.

Finally, the professor states if climate change kills the cedars, in high elevations more trees should have died. While we would not see this happening. In contrast, the text says the patterns of seasonal, as well as the day-to-day temperatures, have changed in northwestern North America. So, it may affect the sensitive roots of cedars and leads to undermining the health of the whole tree.
