In this set of materials, both the reading passage and the lecturer discuss using of a boxed-shape device in order to condense the water vapor in the atmospher, and help trees to grow for the preventing of desertification process. The reading passage firmly states that this device is impractical and proivides three reasons for it. However, the professor casts doubt on all of the reasons, citing that these reasons are not convincing.

Firstly, the article contends that these devices are highly expensive, and in order to prevent the desertification, millions of should be planted; thus, some contries cannot afford to purchase them. On the other hand, the professor articulates that, once the a young tree grows and become big enough, the device can be removed and utlilize it for another tree. Therefore, by reusing of these devices the cost is become much reasonable.

In addition, the essay alleges that the local people in deserts work in harsh atmosphere, and due to these trees are not working as a food source for them, it is hard to nudge them into taking care of these trees. Nevertheless, the lecturer avers that although these trees do not provide for the local people, these devices can use for other plants such as vegetables which beneficiary for them. Besides, when the trees become large, the local people can cut their branches and sell them as firewood.

Eventually, the text asserts that, when the trees outgrow, these devices cannot provide enough water for them in the harsh desert conditions. On the contrary, the professor declares that when these trees grows in that harsh condition their roots become long enough to reach the underground water. Thus, they can survive in the harsh climate of the deserts. She states that a researches have been conducted in Sahara desert reveals that 90% of trees have been survived after ten days which these devices have been removed.
