According to the reading passage, the zebra mussel which is a freshwater shellfish can leave their habitats and go to the other regions such as North America. Although, the passage claims that this invasion cannot be stopped and also can harm the freshwater fishes, professor opposes to this claim and has three reasons against it.

First, He says, however the article poses the ship can transfer zebra mussels with their ballast water (water used by ships to properly balance their cargos) to the other regions but, the ships can refill their reservior with ocean water which is free from zebra mussel and can kill them.

Second, Although the passage claim that the zebra mussels can barrel hard conditions and also have much offsprings so in result they can become dominant in each habitats but, the professer disagree with that statement and says this condition just existed during their arrival. After a while their food become rare and in result mussels population declines immediatly.

At last, professor confirms mussels can reduce the available food for other fishes and so can harm them but he really opposes the whole story wrote in the passage. He claims, although mussels eat a huge amount of planktons but they can produce some other nutrients which bottom fishes can feed by them. Therefore, instead of surface fishes the population of bottom fishes will be increased after the presence of zebra mussels.
