TPO-27 - Integrated Writing Task The little ice age was a period of unusually cold temperature in many parts of the world that lasted from about the year 1350 until 1900CE. There were unusually harsh winters, and glaciers grew larger in many areas. Scient

Scientist were discussing about the causes of little ice age in the reading and provided three points as the reasons for little ice age. Whereas, lecture casts doubt on the point given by scientists in the reading and clarifies with suitable explanation.
Firstly, reading states that ocean current disruption in the gulf stream could be the cause of the little ice age. This disruption was due to cold fresh water from the melted glaciers. Contrary to this opinion, lecture says that scientists are ambiguous about the regions of gulf stream and little ice age. Disruption gulf stream occurred in Northern America and Europe while little ice age happened in the southern hemisphere places like New Zealand and Southern Africa.
Secondly, scientists mentions volcanic eruption be the cause of little ice age because volcanoes send dark clouds of sand and sulfur which block sunlight and it leads to decrease in the temperature. Whereas, lecture agrees with the explanations about the volcanoes but rejects this reason for the little ice age. It states that large volcanoes striking with visual effects like dramatically sun sets and clouds which had not happened in the little ice age region. This shows that volcanoes were not strong enough to carry sand and sulfur.
Thirdly, paragraph states that decrease in human population can be one of the reason which leads to growth of trees in the agricultural land and consequently decrease in the temperature. Whereas, lecture states that humans came back after some time and trees had been chopped off from the agricultural lands. This shows that trees were no longer enough to cause little ice age.
