First of all, the author claims that the fine lines may be originated as a skin, after the dinosaurs death the skin decomposed into fibers. However, the professor disagrees by indicating that on the same side of the volcanic area, others fossils' skin structure is preserved well instead of decomposing into fibers.
In addition, the author states that the scients unsure that the fine lines belong to which part of Sinosauropteryx. And most of dinosaurs had frills, the lines is more likely as the frills. On the contrary, the professor refutes the author idea by explaining that the feater contains a specific type of protein which is the frills didn't have. After the chemical analyzes, the lines were detected the same protein as a feather.
Finally, the author raises the point that the functions of the feather are usually keeping the body temperature and assist to fly. According to the locations of fine lines, which is almost at the tail and on the backbone, the lines are not related to thermoregulate and help to fly. On the other hand, the professor asserts that there is a function of the feathers called the display function and use peacock as an example. Peacock's feathers are colorful and located in their tail in order to attract the partners. And the line's color is orange and white, it may have the same function as the peacock is.
