Although the author provides three main reasons to prove that life on Venus is impossible for human, the professor finds them dubious and brings up a solution to refute them all. The solution he mentions is establishing a station which consists of a big balloon floating on the surface for 50 kilometers.
Firstly, the author argues that the atmospheric pressure is too unbearable for human body and it would destroy everything. However, the professor states that atmospheric pressure inside this station would be equal to the atmospheric pressure on the Earth. Thus, nothing would be crushed by this high pressure.
Furthermore, the reading states that Venus' surface lacks water and oxygen and the most abundant gases are carbon dioxide, sulfuric acid and nitrogen. The professor, on the other hand, asserts that as long as there are plenty amount of carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid, using some chemical process would produce water and oxygen needed for living on the station.
Eventually, the author takes the view that the sunlight not only is blocked by thick clouds but also the great part of it is reflected back and since there is a thick layer of carbon dioxide beneath the cloud, it would block the light as well. In contrast, the professor gainsays this idea and believes that although it is true that there are huge clouds on the surface and they cause reflection of light, the station can utilize both reflected light and transferred light by collecting them. It also can gather the light of above and below the clouds to power the station.
