The passage and the lecture discuss the theories about how a kind of marine animals called Agnostids had been living in the past. The reading presents three theories for this. Whereas, the professor argues against all them by pointing out her reason about why she is thinking all of them has some weakness.

First, the reading claims they could be free-swimming predators because other types of primitive arthropods were strong swimmers and active predators. However, the lecture disagrees with this theory because according to her, predators must have well sight ability to identify and track their hunt. Indeed, there isn't any evidence that can prove Agnostids have a good sight.

Second, the passage suggests that they might have lived is seafloor and feed on dead organisms or bacterias that were found in there. However, the professor refutes this theory completely because she believes animals living on the seafloor aren't fast at all, and they can live in just a small geological area. While there is a lot of evidence that shows they existed in large distances which can prove they were pretty fast. Thus, they weren't seafloor dwellers.

Third, the passage claims they might be parasites. However, the professor refutes this theory too, because according to her, parasites couldn't have a large population because the host's defensive organisms would kill lots of them. Thus, this theory isn't true because there is a lot of evidence that can prove they had a great population.

Although the passage suggests three theory about how Agnostids may have lived, the professor argues against all of them and explain why they couldn't be true.
