On the contrary, the lecturer rules out this reason by talking about the fact that typical seadweller organisms cannot move fast, and they merely occupy a small geographic area. However, the agnostids lived in a multiplicity of geographic areas which is highly unusual for seafloor dewellers.
Finally, the passage asserts that the agnostids were parasites which lived on and fed off larger organisms. Conversely, the lecturer is skeptical about this theory and tries to repudiate it by explaining that the population of parasites is not large. If there were too many parasites, they would have killed the host. She adds that the evidence gathered from agnostids' fossils reveals that the agnostids were highly populated which contradict the theory of the agnostids being parasites.
