TPO-43 - Integrated Writing Task Agnostids were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. Agnostid fossils can be found in rocks in many areas around the world. From the fossil remains, we know that agnostids were primitiv

The reading passage and the lecture both discuss agnostids and their behavior. The passage states some theories about how they might have lived. However, the lecture does not agree with what the passage proposes and refutes all the theories.

First off, the passage considers the agnostids as free-swimming predators. Not having been convinced, the speaker asserts that free-swimming predators usually have large eyes to see their targets and hunt them. She proceeds to say that theagnostids had tiny, poorly developed eyes. Furthermore, in some fossils they did not have any eyes. Consequently, they were not able to hunt smaller organisms and this theory is ruled out.

Moreover, the author of the passage states that the agnostids may have been seafloor dwellers. On the conrary, the professor argues that seafloor dwellers do not have the ability of swimming fast or far. She elaborates that the fossils of the agnostids have been found across large distances and it indicates that the agnostids could move fast which is an unusual if they dwelled of the seafloor. Therefore, she casts doubt on this theory and proves it wrong.

Finally, she does not approve the third theory stated by the passage which proposes that the agnostids were parasites. The professor declares that parasites organisms do not have a large population, Since it can destroy the host organism. She delineates the fossils of the agnostids shows they had lived in large group. Thus, this theory about the agnostids can be proven wrong.
