TPO 44 - Integrated Writing Task

The reading comprehension and the lecture is discussing the fascinating topic regarding the Silver coin found in the North American settlement in Main by Norse is not a genuine coin according to the author. Notwithstanding, The lecturer casts doubts on the points made by the reading and insisted with plausible explanations that the coin is genuine.

Firstly, the writer states that the settlement could not have the silver coin from the Norse's because their residence were at far great distance from the Norse Settlement. Moreover, he added that the remains of the Norse people found in the Canada portion; whereas, the Norse settlement were in the Main which is the way far distance. However, the professor repudiate this notion of the writer by providing the information that the Native American's were fond of collecting the valuable things and they used to travel a lot of places. They might have contacted the Norse settlement of the Main and brought the coin to Canada. Therefore according to the lecturer the silver coin from the Europe is the real not a fake. Moreover he proposed that the connection with the Native American is through the exchange of the goods might have taken place.

Secondly, the author avers that the there were no other coins were found. So, the coin is not real. On contrary, the lecturer reject this claim by stating that the Norse people were from the Europe and they never made a permanent residence in the North America .While returning to Europe the Settlers might have packed all the silver coins that they would have brought along with them when they came to USA. Therefore, no other coins could be found.

Finally, the reading asserts that the Norse's might thought that the coins are of no use in USA as it was in Europe. As the Native American were unaware of the currency may not no the value of the silver coin. While the lecturer discards this claim by suggesting that the Native Americans were the people who collect the antique and beautiful things. Moreover they might found the beauty of the silver coin and therefore they might have kept the silver coin while exchanging the stuff with the European people. Consequently the coin is genuine.
