TPO 44 - Integrated Writing Task

The main idea of the both the passage and the talk is about the coins which were found at the Native American archaeological site. In the text, the author claims that there are some evidence which represent these coins are not a genuine piece of historical evidence. The lecturer challenges all the viable arguments mentioned in the reading. She is of the opinion that none of these reasons is accurate.

Firstly, the author sates that place where coins were discovered is very far from other sites which represents the presence of Norse. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that other objects were found from distant locations. Furthermore, she says that American people traveled great distances to obtain their needs. Thus, it is no secret that this fact is accurate about silver coin.

In addition, the author asserts that archaeologist did not find other coins beside this coin. The lecturer, on the other hand, rebuts this by pointing out the idea that there were no other coins because settlements are not permanent, and there were on travel to other location. Therefore, they packed all their valuable stuffs such as coins when they traveled to other places.

Eventually, the author holds the opinion that Norse was aware about this fact that silver coins were not precious in Europe at that time. The lecturer, however, dismisses this notion by asserting that although silver coins were not used by people as a currency at that time, but the coins were unusual objects and they could use these coins for other purpose such a decorating issues or as a jewelry. Moreover, she says that individuals in that time could utilized coins for trade.
