The reading claims that Pterosaurs was not capable of powered flight and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and provides several points to refute them all.
First, the author argues that Pterosaurs was a cold-blooded animal and he did not have high metabolism, therefor, this animal was not able to produce enough energy for powered-flight. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt on this ideas by stating the fact that this animal had a hair like cover which help him to keep his metabolism high. Eventually, Pterosaurs had a faster metabolism than what the reading says and he was probably able to fly.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that the high weight of this animal would not allow him to fly. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that the intricate anatomy of this animal help him to have an unusual low weight. For instance, Pterosaurs had a hollow boons which helped him to keep his body weight low enough to allow him fly.
Finally, the reading asserts that the Pterosaurs did not have powerful legs, so, he was not able to jump high enough before his fly. On the contrary, the lecturer dismisses this issue due to the fact that this animal utilized his four legs for jumping. As a result, he did not have a problem to jump high enough. She also argues that other animals such as bats use the same method for their jump and although they are not able to run fast by utilizing their feet, they can jump high enough and after that they can fly.
