The main idea of both the reading passage and the lecture is about the ability of pterosaurs to fly. The reading passage provides three reasons that they were not able only to fly. But, the professor rejects whatever mentioned in the passage.
First, the reading passage discusses that pterosaurs were cold-blooded and they were unable to generate a lot of energy to fly. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point and states that studies have shown that pterosaurs had dense hair-like covering which indicates they were worm-blooded. Thus, they had a high metabolism and would have been able to produce the energy needed to fly.
Second, the reading passage discusses that pterosaurs were so heavy that they would not have been able to flap their wings fast enough to fly. On the other hand, the professor rejects this point and states that pterosaurs were not heavy because they had hollow bone which cause them to be able to fly.
Finally, the reading passage discusses that pterosaurs were not able to fly because of their back leg muscles were too small and weak. But, the professor is against this point and states that pterosaurs were used four legs to jumping and push the ground to lift themselves into the air. The professor adds that pterosaurs were alike modern fly animals.
All in all, the reading passage provides three reasons that pterosaurs were able only to glide. On the other hand, the professor thinks that none of these is reasonable.
