TPO-48 - Integrated Writing Task In recent years, many frog species around the world have declined in numbers or even gone extinct due to changes in their environment. These population declines and extinctions have serious consequences for the ecosystems

Essay topics

In the reading passage, the author mentions three methods to sort out the problem of decreasing frog populations. These solutions, however, are refuted by the lecturer.

First, the author suggests that forbidding farmers from using detrimental pesticides, which affect frog's nervous system, could reduce the harm substantially. The lecturer disagrees with this suggestion and thinking over it from economical perspective. She argues that it would be rather unfair to those prohibited farmers, who will lose many crops.

Second, the author claims that a wide-spread fungus is responsible for killing frogs. Thus, a large scale of medical treatment is indispensable to protect frogs from infection. The lecturer counters this assumption, pointing out the drawback of this method. Since the treatment can only apply individually and can't be transferred to the offspring, the process of implementing treatments would be significantly costly.

Last but not least, the author contends that human activities such as overusing water resources also destroyed frog's habitats, threatening their propagation. The lecturer rebuts this view, asserting that global warming would be the main cause of changing the habitats. Therefore, preserving the water habitats will not probably enough to reverse the situation.
