TPO 49 - Integrated writing

The reading passage and the lecture talk about the migration of the long distance of humpback whale. The author proposes three possible solutions that suggest the reason behind the long distance migration but the lecturer cast doubt on the reading passage. The professor claims that all three solutions that are expressed in the reading passage are not so convincing.

First, according to reading the humpback whale are intelligent enough to navigate the long distance by using stars. On the other hand, the professor claims that there are no connection between intelligent and the ability to navigate long straight distance. He provides an example that is duck, although its intellectual power is average it can navigate the long straight distance by using stars.

Second, the passage mentions that some external object (stars) can determine the direction of humpback like other birds or terrestrial animal. The lecturer finds another solution, he says the external object may be the earth magnetic field that can be used for the movement of humpback.

Third, the passage indicates an unusual behavior of humpback that is spy-hooping. But the lecturer clearly mention that spy-hooping is rare but other animal like shark also shows this type of character for hunting not for navigation a long distance. Because stars are unavailable at day time but this character is seen at day time by shark
