Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific methods proposed in the reading passage.

humpback whales

The listening and the reading materials have a debate on whether the humpback whales use stars for finding their way in migrating. The penman puts 3 main hypothesizes, which are refuted by the following orator.

First of all, the writer suggests that these animal are clever and they know finding their way through looking to stars like humans. On the other hand, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to him, there is no real connection between overall intelligent and finding path with stars. Because there are some kind of animals who find their way by this way such as ducks, but they are not highly ingenious; they have average smart.

The second point offered by the author is that swimming in straight lines in oceans needs having some guides that means the humpback whales use stars for navigating. On the contrary, the lecturer casts doubt on this assumption by saying that whales have bio magnetic option in their brain which help them for finding way by oriented magnetic field of earth. As a result, there is no need that they rely only on stars.

Last, the reading passage proposes that the whale's behavior such as spy-hopping helps them on finding way through stars. However, the professor holds a different perspective. He explains that some other marine animals like sharks perform this certain action for hunting, not for migrating or navigating by stars. Thus, this is not a proper argument for proofing that the whales use stare for not losing in their migration.

In all, the ideas mentioned in the speech counter the opinions in the text in-that using stars for finding way by some not talented birds, applaying magnetic field of earth for navigating by humpback whales, and doing spy-hopping for hunting by sharks support professor's believes.
