TPO 5 integrated writing

Both the reading and the passage explains about the "great houses" which are in the American south-west in Chaco Canyon and are related to the twelfth century and contain hundreds of thousands of rooms. The author of the passage explains three theories about how the buildings were used. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on all of the theories.
The first theory in the passage states that the houses were purely residential for housing hundreds of thousands of people. On the other hand, the professor challenges this theory and illustrates that these building from outside looks like native American's apartments. But, inside the buildings are not like an apartment because there is not enough fireplace. He also explains that the fireplaces are enough for ten families, not for hundreds of families.
The second theory is that houses were used to store food supplies. The author also explains that one of the main crops that Chaco people used was grain maize. However, the professor challenges this theory and states that the excavation of these building was not suitable for storing grain maize and have not cover for the maize. Additionally, if these were for storing maize, there should have been some evidence of maize on the ground.
The last theory is about using these buildings as ceremonial centers. The professor opposes this assertion and illustrates that there should have been some evidence of ceremonial actions. For instance, there should have been sand, stones or construction tools; however, there is not anything like them. He also explains that pots that are founded in the buildings, were for daily uses, not for a ceremony.
