TPO 50 Q1

The reading states challenges, which human being would confront during missions to sending humans to mars in the near future, and explains three problems the Moon missions did not have to face before; however, the lecturer casts doubt on these issues.

First, the text explains the duration of the go-and-back-trip to mars, that is at least two years, and it is not easy to carry enough supplies of food, water, and oxygen required for passengers for the mentioned period trip by the spacecraft; conversely, the professor argues that by hydroponic methods, that are based on making plants' root in the water and collecting food and oxygen during trip time in spacecraft. Additionally, the waste water of trip would be used in this method and resulted clean water.

Moreover, the passage exerts the zero-gravity on mars for long time, would have negative impacts on the human body such as muscle mass and bone density; although, the lecturer argues that astronomers during long-term space trips utilize additional calcium and vitamins with their food, and do special excercises to reduce these side effects.

Finally, the reading avers that dangerous radiation emitted by the Sun has not been avoided without Earth's magnetic field or a protector spaceshield for the whole spaceship, which is not practical; however, the professor explaines that all level of the radiations are not dangerous. also, she states that by monitoring these radiations not only is not impossible to be avoided the dangerous levels, but also the small shelter for putting in the radiation pathway to reach spacecraft helps to pass the danger.
