Both the reading passage and the lecturer discuss about the communal online encyclopedias. The reading explains the problems with online encyclopedias, however, the lecturer refutes the author and provides three main reasons to reject them all.
First, the author states that online encyclopedias are inaccurate and cannot be relied on compared with traditional encyclopedias. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes this idea, suggesting that all encyclopedias suffer from having errors and faults and it is difficult to find a error free text. Moreover, in the printed version of encyclopedias, the occurred errors would last approximately decades and could not be improved and it would be more misleading.
Second, the author discusses that online encyclopedias are prone to be edited or deleted since users can alter their information. However, the lecturer refuses this notion, citing that the crucial facts published in online versions are in unchangeable format. Also, the number of experts in different contexts have an eye to the published information in online encyclopedias and investigate them accurately.
Third, the author indicates that through the use of online encyclopedias, the users cannot decide whether some topics are considerable or not. Conversely, the lecturer explains that in traditional encyclopedias, there is a limitation of space to explain the proposed topic and a group of judges are forced to decide what information are important to include, whereas, the space for online version is not a restriction. The most important merit of online encyclopedia is having enough space to provide various topics.
