The the author of the reading critises the communal online encyclopedias for some reasons. However, the lecturer's opinion was completely different and opposed the author's idea anf the reasons.

First, the author states that many of the contributors to these encyclopedias don't have proper academic knowledge so they are many mistakes within them. The lecturer opposed this idea and explained that all online and offline enclyclopedias have errors and mistakes, and you cannot find a encyclopedia without any error. However, the errors within an online encyclopedia could be removed much esier than their offline printed counterparts. The errors within a printed encyclopedia remain in it until next edition, but the removal of errors within an online encyclopedia is a matter of some clicks.

Second, the author claims that even if the original entry was correct it could be easily altered by hackers and vandals. The lecturer explained that these online encyclopedias usually implement some strategies to counteract these vulnerabilities. One strategy is that they provide information in read-only format. That means users can just read the information, but they can alter them. Another strategy is that they have some special editors. They read articles and eliminate those alterations that might some people make.

Third, the author states that these online encyclopedia provide false impression in audiences. The lecturer opposed this idea and explained that printed encyclopedias have space problem, so they have to decide which information should be included and which not be. On the other hand, noline encyclopedias have unlimited space so there is no need for elimination. These encyclopedias reflect the diversity and interests of their readers and it is one of their advantages.
