The reading states about a record that may provides some information about the face of Jane Austen (1775-1817), a famous English novelist, and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor in the lecture casts serious doubt on the passage by using a number of points that are contrary to each of the author's reasons.

First of all, the reading claims that her family after her dead in 1882 had recognized her picture that is reliable. The professor refutes this point by saying that it is not convincing. He states that it is hard to believe because she dead almost seventy years before that time. Therefore, her family could not have known her truly and we should not consider this proof as a reason for our claim.

On another hand, the article posits that this picture is too similar to one which we know depicts Austen. However, the professor describes that this resemblance is too large and general. According to the professor, children at teenage period are so similar to Austin. As a result, we cannot accept this idea.

Finally, the reading makes it clear that the style of portray is as same as other painter who provides some canvass for Austin's family. However, the professor opposes this opinion by explaining about Ozias Humphrey and his black canvass. We also learn that, this man had sold this form of canvass twenty seven years later to Austin's family, when Jane was so old for panting.
