To begin with, the author suggests that the fires that occurred in Yellowstone destroyed all the tees and plants there including the small plants. Moreover, she mentions that the fires created opportunities for new plants to grow for instance, the burned trees were taken over by the plant that need open and unshaded areas. Secondly, the writer argues that Yellowstone fires had a harmful effect on the large creatures that live there like deer and elk and the small animals could not escape the fire as well. Hence, the disruption in food chain was happened.
The lecturer, however, rebuts this claim by explaining that the populations recovered after the fires and provide new chances for new animals to live there. Yellowstone park become ideal habitat to small animals like rabbits and hares which create an opportunity for predators to live there. As a result, the food chain become stronger than before.
Finally, the author posits that the fires decreased the park' value as tourist attraction, which had drastic outcomes on the local businesses and economy. In contrast, the lecturer casts doubt on this claim by the fires in 1988 were very unusual event due to high winds and does not happen frequently. Furthermore . she mentions that these fires were devastating and caused massive damages. However, these fires have not occurred since 1988 and after that tourists come every year. Thus, the local economy is not affected.
