Long-term international Migration UK 1999-2008
The chart below gives information about UK Immigration, Emigration, and net migration between 1999 to 2008.
Overall, both Immigration and Emigration increased sharply, but the figure for Immigration was still significantly higher. The Net migration in the UK stood on top in 2004 and 2007.
First of all, in 1999, Immigration accounted for nearly 500 thousand, while people who emigration was around 300 thousand. From 1999 to 2008, the immigration rate rose by nearly 6000 people. On the other hand, there was a rapid rise to 400000 people of Emigration in 2006, before falling slightly to approximately 330000 people in 2007, and then increased more than 4000 people in 2008.
Whereas, Net migration remained stable at around 160000 people in 2003. Furthermore, Net migration witnessed a huge change in the rate of people in 2004 which reached a peak of almost 250000 but then fell back slightly to 160000 in 2008.
