The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
It is widely argued that scientific research plays an integral part in promoting people’s lives. From my perspective, I totally agree with this statement on account of the development in medical care and education.
To begin with, the more alarming life-threatening diseases are, the more important science is. As a matter of fact, human beings are facing many infectious diseases caused by complicated germs and bacteria; therefore, experts and professors in medical fields have to implement a myriad of research with a view to introducing new therapies, vaccines, and antibiotics with technological innovations, which can significantly facilitate doctors’ process of diagnosis and public access to advanced medical treatments. Take cancer as a typical example. Such a fatal disease nowadays is gradually solved thanks to the advent of chemical treatment. As a result, the overall well-being and average life expectancy of citizens will be improved.
Another contributing factor is that educators have to conduct scientific research to keep up with educational development. Not only can teaching methodologies be renovated but learning strategies of learners will also be positively changed with the advent of science. Should fundamental knowledge such as natural and social science be promoted, individuals can develop their life-long learning and personal growth. Language education is a clear justification. In particular, breakthroughs on applied linguistic sciences and teaching methodologies have led to technological integration and various effective methods and approaches such as Communicative Language Teaching, Task-based learning, and Grammar Translation, so the process of teaching and language learning become surprisingly effective.
In conclusion, were people not to conduct scientific research, there would be no improvement and development of any academic fields in our lives. Therefore, it seems to me that both governments and citizens should invest time and money in science to ensure a better future for young generations.
