The professor refutes this point by saying that smart cars will be still involved in some accidents. He states that even the most advance technology could fail occasionally. Moreover, the orator mentions that these computerized cars will cause even worse accidents because they will be packed together, so more cars will be involved in accidents.
Second, the article posits that the traffic problems will disappear completely with smart cars because cars could be followed more closely, so they will be driven at high speed. Thus, the commuting time is reduced. However, the professor says that the commuting time will not be reduced. According to the professor, introducing this new technology will encourage more people to drive, and therefore the addition of cars won't allow drivers to take advantage of the speed.
Third, the reading says that smart cars will reduce costs because they will drive more direct routes, so people in the future will save money repairing and replacing parts.
